Upper half of LCD screen gone dim - water damage??

Hi! Long story short - today I changed my screen protector for the first time since getting my phone. Between removing the old one and applying the new one I decided to clean my screen with a cotton pad, water and a tiny bit of soap. Since the Z3 Compact is supposed to be waterproof I didn't think thiat would cause any problems - however, after the cleaning process my LCD screen suddenly looked like this:

The upper part of the lcd screen is terribly dim while the lower part (just a patch, really) is super bright. It's mostly noticeable on light backgrounds, for example everything white looks grey. The photos didn't turn out that great but I hope you can see what I mean.

What do you guys think happened? Is it because of me cleaning the screen? Is there a way for me to fix this? There seems to be no other problems with the screen besides this, it works just fine, except for the annoying brightness problem.

Thanks in advance!
