Problem with tethering/hotspot

I have new xperia xz premium, I had previously z2 model and never had tethering and hotspot problem, called my network Vodafone, they replied problem is because of my phone, when I connected to my phone with my notebook I have DNS problems.

Please send if anyone has any suggestions

I am facing identical problem, with identical phone and network operator.

ping 8.8.8.8

works, but

tracert google.com

does not work on connected client

what i have tried already:

- restart phone

- restart mobile network settings

- remove APN and via configuration sms add them again

- change hotspot settings

but without any success.

android version is 7.1.1., phone model G8142

any suggestion ?

solved!!!

This can be fixed permanently using the following procedure (UPDATE: no root required):

Enable developer mode (Go to Settings -> About phone, and click on the build number until the developer mode is enabled).
Enable USB debugging under Settings -> Developer options
Connect the device with a USB cable to a computer with the Android SDK platform tools installed
Start an adb shell: adb shell
In the adb shell, run this command: settings put global tether_dun_required 0

Thanks for your post on fixing problem w tethering on XZP. I have now the same problem. Is the last character in the settings command O or 0 (zero)?

Thanks very much. I did it. I hit return after I typed the command. Then I closed the CMD window. Is that all or did I need to type any other command to close the session?

im having the same issue, and it still persent even in android oreo 8.0.0 - 47.1.A.5.51

i did factory reset, xperia companion repair, and it's still not working....

is there any other solution or you think it's a hardware problem?

Hi. I have the same problem with a Xperia XZ1 (G8342 Model / Compilation 47.1.A.8.49 - in fact, the same platform and Android version) and the fix didn't work too.

If it's a hardware issue, its occurs very often and may be a roblem to Sony with your XZ new phones.

I' looking forward for an other software fix, if it exists ....

what make you sure it's a hardware problem?

BTW, i have the same problem in my XZ PREMIUM. (chrome), and earlier I tried to connect using another XZ Premium (chrome) of other person i know, and it has the same problem like mine!

also, i had a Deepsea black xz premium before i sell and get the chrome color, and the latter had the same tethering issues...

so many xz premium affected, and i guess it's the Qualcomm SD 835 Chipset that causes that.

I have the black one. Pre-ordered it from the UK for the fingerprint reader and to get it in English. I use mine for ALL of my internet access with a T-Mobile unlimited high speed LTE plan. Therefore I use hotspot/tethering all the time without any issues at all. Since we probably have the same software on all the versions in question I would say that a hardware defect may in fact be the reason for the issues. Sorry you are having the problem. Just wanted to make it known that I have virtually zero issues with mine.

we both have the same issue... he, on his XZ1 and I onmy XZ Premium, also someone reported the same issue in his XZ1 Compact in XDA forum!

do you think there are some affected batch in those models or it's the SD 835 chipset?

Hi i am experiencing problems with tethering wifi. I have lte signal, i can browse inside my phone, i can share this conecction via usb tethering and bluetooth tethering, the hotspot its enabled but it is not visible in other computers. I can connect to others wifi's, but not share mine

I already made software repair, update, software fabric reset..

@andres_uygo to Settings > Network & Internet > Hotspot & tethering > Portable hotspot settings and check if "Discoverable" option is turned on.

iBoss can this info help to give some light to the problem ? maybe that the region of the firmware could limitate the hotspot functionality or it is a hardware problem ? the wifi works fine...
