**guys and gals, if you have this issue please thumbs up this thread. The more awareness we bring the more likely sony will start caring. (Because its been a year and i dont see any solutions). **Updated 04/07/2018

Really hoping i'm not the only one experiencing this issue.
Whenever I make a call using the main microphone (not speakerphone) after a few minutes people say i sound "muffled" or they hear a "clicking" sound. The clicking sound happens just before my mic cuts out entirely and the other person cant hear me until i switch to speakerphone. Oddly enough, switching from speakerphone then turning it off solves the issue for a minute before it happens all over again. Additionally resetting the phone seems to fix the issue for an hour or so. I have yet to try and repeat this error using a VOIP call like FB messenger.

Anyone else experiencing this, or can offer some help?

Best, i have the same issues..most of the time the microphone wont work with voicetalk from whatsapp..its Bulships end that for a 800eu telephone..shame on sony

Same problem. I sent my phone back to vendor and have exchanged. Still a loss for them and a loss of my time

I don't make much phone calls, but it seems this happens any phone call over 10min

@chloes FYI i received a second brand new phone today from my vendor. Still experiencing this issue, its not longer "clicking" and its not as frequent but as one user mentioned, after about 30 minutes it cuts out and i have to switch to speakerphone to speak with someone. If it helps, my phone is from the Chinese marketplace

I am having the same problem. Now my phones bottom microphone has completely stopped working. Only speakerphone works or using a Bluetooth headset. Such a shame, this has led me to not want to have bought a Sony again

I have the exact same thing happen to me using a Sony Xperia XZ, after multiple repairs I got a new XZ, but the problem persisted. I now received a new XZ Premium and I'm still having the problem.

I also made a topic on the XZ forum while I still had the second XZ phone. /t5/Xperia-XZ/Voice-dropping-mid-call/m-p/1264095#M10969

But apperantly the issue has been around for a long time if you see the dates in this topic /t5/Xperia-Z-ZL-ZR/Xperia-Z-Mic-noise-reduction-setting-kills-mic-audio-during-call/td-p/302019

Wonder if Sony will ever fix it...

well its been almost a full year at this point, 2 brand new phones (both from China) and countless updates to the XZ Premium but the mic out issue is still happening. I'm not sure if its just my imagination or me getting used to it but it does seem to happen less frequently now (every 20 min vs every 5 min). I've gotten used to just using my speakerphone all the time. Sony i'll buy the XZ2 pro, but if this is a continual issue for your next gen phone you've lost a really big advocater for your business line.
2 phones back to back worth $800 on release is unacceptable, especially without a bug fix to date.

Just to add my experience, I had the xz premium when it first came out in June last year, pre ordered it as long time Sony user, previous phone was z2 with no call issues.

Had same issue with person I'm taking to suddenly hears clicks then can't hear me for random amount of time and I can hear them an shows I have signal on phone.

Ended up returning phone for 3-4 replacements through carphone warehouse, tried all sorts of tests even with guys in the shop using different network sim cards and issue continued on all handsets so got a refund to purchase through amazon instead in case of batch issue, which worked fine for few months then issue started, so returned to amazon.

Definitely seems a widespread issue that Sony need to address ASAP. especially as after my refund from amazon I pre ordered xz2 as thought I can't be unlucky like this again, and annoyingly after having xz2 since launch start of this month same issue has started happening over the last week, so I'll be returning again for a replacement. Very infuriating that a phone costing £650 and £700 with the xz2 have such an issue with a basic feature of calling in 2018.

For me I'll be replacing as many as I can through carphone until they won't replace anymore so that Sony will hopefully get their act together.

I encourage anyone with same issue to return theirs for replacement where possible and get the supplier to note the call issue so hopefully Sony can see how big an issue this is, and very annoying this issue seems to be across all recent flagship models at least!

Hey guys,

I started noticing the problem few months back. When I am on a Whatsapp call the mic cuts off when the screen is locked, I have to constantly keep the screen awake even on a voice call, video call works fine as the screen is never locked.

Having the same issue but i don't know if it's about the speaker or the proximity sensor. I don't get that click, the microphone just mutes itself and if i move it from my ear and the proximity sensor goes off (screen turns on) then the person can hear me again, but i didn't really notice if the speakerphone "solves" it or the proximity sensor. Still having this issue, it's so frustrating especially with Sony doing nothing about it.
