    <description>&lt;P&gt;Any chance that Sony will step up and take responsibility for selling a phone without building firmware that works with US carriers? It's very annoying to always lose calls because VoLTE isn't available. It's not the carrier or the SIM card. I can put my SIM card in my old Z3 and VoLTE works fine. What kind of company can ethically sell a device that doesn't work and blame other companies for their own failure? Fix it! You had a loyal customer base that is fading. These phones aren't cheap.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;</description>

If there's not a "HD voice" mobile device on either end and/or one of the networks does not support "HD voice" (assuming you're calling someone on a different network), it goes back to "regular" telephone calls.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;EM&gt;Most&lt;/EM&gt; high-end smartphones and many mid-range smartphones made over the last two-ish years support "HD voice", but network support varies considerably.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;"&lt;A href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voice_over_LTE" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"&gt;VoLTE&lt;/A&gt;" is quite literally the cellular/mobile equivalent of VoIP ("Skype"), and sends telephone calls over the mobile data network, rather than via "traditional" telephone networks. VoLTE &lt;EM&gt;natively&lt;/EM&gt; supports "HD voice", so the networks &lt;EM&gt;usually&lt;/EM&gt; just say "VoLTE", rather than "VoLTE with HD voice" or similar.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;VoLTE-compatible mobile devices are still new-ish, almost exclusively consists of high-end mobile devices (for now) and network support is pretty limited, but it's slowly becoming more common, both in mobile devices and networks... In the long-term, all mobile devices and networks will support VoLTE.&lt;/P&gt;</description>
