Oreo update has also severely reduced the battery life of my x compact. I've gone from 1 and a half to two days battery life to barely 1. The long life was one of the main reasons I chose the phone, and the thing I was most pleased with. I hope they sort this. Will be contacting sony as my phone is still in guarantee.

Just another quick thought. The auto screen brightness seems to have been working overtime, like it can't decide what the ambient light is. Might be using the extra battery making those constant adjustments. Going to turn off the auto brightness and see if it makes a difference.

The same thing is happening to me aswell I wish I could go back. I would take it off the charger and leave home fully charged at 12 and return at 1130 later that night and still have around 20-40 percent left. After the update, my phone dies around 8 or 9.

Sony please fix this!!

It’s so sad, a software upgrade should not require such involvement trying to solve what is basically a software error.

Dont bother clearing your phone and starting again it is a software error with the aoreo upgrade that has obviously not been tested well enough by Sony.

Spent far too long clearing and restarting and it is still working with a now warm and quickly dying battery... Just pushed the button on a Galaxy, can’t live with this.

I updated to Oero two days ago. Battery life decreased since then. According to Andriod system information, standy-by constributes about 30% to power consumption. However, this ai not reliable at ll, because some apps I use often are not listed at all ...

Unfortunately with Oreo it is not possible anymore to show CPU load anymore, so it is difficlut to find out what is causing the battery drain.

I general one should appreciate Sony update policy and the timely release of security patches. But very often the updates are causing only trouble, while the newly introduced functions are of litte use. Onece the system ist running well again I will disable system updates.

So I tried turning off the auto screen brigtness and it does seem to have had some effect, but the battery life is still nowhere near what it was. Like others, my phone is running hotter at times now. Is there a way to see whats running in this android version, perhaps to identify the culprit when it is hot? Also does anyone know if its possible to roll back to the old version?

I am running 8.0.0 (build 34.4.A.2.19) for more than a week now (Vodafone Netherlands). Battery runtime is the same or even better than 7.1.1. Perhaps you should look at the app consumption since the last full charge (Settings - Battery - Advanced). Perhaps this gives you a lead to the problem.

So yes, phone runs really hot, like 45 Celsius, battery drain is totally unacceptable. Leaving charger at 0600 (100%) and at lunch around 1100 (30%) with almost no use. Then using ultra battery saver, thinking it surely must disable the culprit that is causing the problem. Sadly no, at 1300 phone shuts down, still around the 45 Celsius hot.

I already ordered and will receive my Galaxy S8 tomorrow.

Eventually Sony will fix this, then maybe I will be able to sell this brick..

The problem has to be in the update. The avarage consumption based on long time usage was around 12-13 percent, so the phone lasted around 7-8hours which got me through even a longer day.. with screen on doing casual things i do.. now it is 17percent and i get around 5 hours even though the data are off gps off bluetooth off and all the settings really moderated.. and temperature 45celsius is really high for im basically not doing anything...

Please solve this problem sony!!!!!!!

Hello. Yesterday I updated to Oreo, and right after that came new update(build 34.4.A.2.19) and I took it. With the first Oreo update I immediately noticed the problem with the light sensor making constant subtle changes. I took the new update right away without waiting at all, but it didn't fix the light sensor.

Haven't noticed greatly lower battery drain yet at least, but I am still worried about it. Sony should still look into it for sure. Also the light sensor problem is bad, since the auto adjusting brightness feature is really handy.

Other notes about this notorious Android 8.0.0 update is that the clock app doesn't let you change the sound volume for each alarm separately anymore and black theme is not nice, also the home button and the other buttons are much less nicer than they were.

First of all, I think Sony should be more careful with updates and not make them actually break stuff instead of fixing stuff. Second, there should be easily accessible change log about updates. Third, there should be option to go back to older software versions. So in other words, Sony please do something. People can easily lose trust in the brand, and that's bad.
