Thanks @uliwooly

The answer was in the simple sugestion to reset. I tried Nfc and it tried to connect but wouldn't. So I went to the reset button on the speaker and used Nfc again. Now connects without problem. Have a virtual cigar mate.
I have a z1 upgraded to lollipop in the UK. Had many problems when first updated and so used pc companion to repair and... Wonderful. Except the Bluetooth. I can connect to my car but my two Bluetooth portable speakers in the house simply can't be found. One is Sony and the other a jbl flip. Both previously worked without issue. Any ideas why there is this problem? Would rather not have to run pc companion again as it deletes everything.
