Hi,

my son uses his headphone for gaming on the PS4. To talk to his fellow gamers he needs to use a headphone cable. Apparently the microphone gets disabled when using the headphone cable.

Is my assumption right and is there a solution?

Not quite right, but the headphones are not dedicated for gaming, so they don't have the option to stream both media audio and microphone/call audio at the same time.

You'll need to either get a dedicated headset or one of those detachable microphones (the modmic being a popular option).
