topic Sony Time-lapse App vs intervalometer in Alpha & NEX interchangeable lens cameras

Hi

I’ve been using a Sony A600 for more than a year and I would like the possibility of taking time-lapse. A saw two options:
- The playmemories app for $10
- Getting a multi-port to 2.5mm converter and then any intervalometer, total around $20
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KWWWHUM
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250926445909

Does anyone tried both? Do you now advantages and disadvantages of each method?

Many thanks

Hi machich66,

Welcome to the Sony User Community Forum..

I haven't tried either but check out some of the Time Lapse videos on YouTube & check out some of the reviews before you choose, however at £10 I would probably give the app a try if I wanted to try out time lapse..

The biggest issue with the PlayMemories time lapse app is that it does not support Bulb mode, so you are limited to exposures of 30s or less. This may be ok for certain time lapse purposes but it renders the app useless for shooting star trails for example. I think this is a big enough flaw that Sony should disclose it clearly in the App info so users can know before they buy. Spending £8.99 on the app only to find out it doesn't work in Bulb mode was a rip off. Alternatively, Sony could fix the App so that it works with any length of exposure - that way it would be a truly integrated intervalometer, which would be a real advantage/plus on the a6000.

Despite having invested in the App, I ended up buying a stand alone intervalometer. JJC make one for the a6000 and it works very well, as do other generic brands. Do a search on eBay. As far as I can tell, there is no need for you to get a multi port converter, as the generic intervalometers are made for the a6000 and directly compatible.
