topic a5000 battery life, disabling NFC & Mac Wifi connectivity in Alpha & NEX interchangeable lens cameras

Hi, I have just purchased an alpha5000 and have a few questions..

is it possible to disable the NFC (which I don't use) whilst keeping wi-fi connectivity to the Mac (El-Capitan)?

This is a brand new camera with a Sony battery, but the battery life appears to be appallingly bad! It took over 5 hours to charge and discharged within one hour of operation (i.e. camera powered up) and less than 20 photos taken.

I've now set the camera to airplane mode ( and just switch wifi on to transfer images) and have switched off pre AF and the 2 second review. It also seems to be important to switch the camera off rather than allow it to go into standby between shots/ scenes.

If anyone also uses El Capitan, can you dispense with the PlayMemories Home App and just use the Wireless Auto Import to transfer via wifi into Photos App? I tried it but without the PlayMemories App running the transfers ran interminably slowly and bombed out halfway through.

Thanks in advance for any advice

Paul
