Sony DSC-HX90VB suddenly died and won't power up. :(

Has anyone had a issue with the Sony DSC-HX90-VB not powering up? The camera is just 16 months old and is a great little camera when I don't want the bulk of a dSLR but a few days ago whilst on holiday, I took 2 photos, turned the camera off, put it back in its case and then when I went to use it about 30 mins later, there was nothing. I assumed the battery was dead so replaced it with a spare I always carry, but nothing. I have tried charging the camera (you get a very faint barely visible orange light), charging the battery in a separate charger and have left the battery out for 24 hours to reset it. The camera is still dead. I even bought another battery in case I had 2 duff ones but still nothing. The camera had no kind of knocks and the lens is fully retracted. It is just completely dead and wont fire up? Any suggestions?

Thanks Ed, I have tried all sorts and the camera has no life whatsoever. It
was also our main carry camera and the main video camera for my son's
YouTube videos so they have now come to an abrupt halt. Given the cost of
repairs these days that has put me off that route and if I get a new one,
what stops he same thing happening again and killing another £300? I
therefore hope there is a magic fix for it.

It sounds that you tried what you can do yourself, but it seems the camera will indeed need to be repaired.

Thanks, I feared that would be the case although is it worth having a repair done on a £260 camera where the repair probably cost almost as much as I paid for the camera - especially as it is only 16 months old! You would expect a camera would generally last a bit longer than that, its been well looked after and still looks like new. I've always bought Sony (cameras, mobile phones, hi-fi, TV and Blue Ray etc etc) and so generally, if it died of old age or because I had dropped it or something then I would replace it with the next model up, the DSC-HX95 or DSC-HX99 but have to admit I am now concerned that exactly the same thing could happen to them in 16 months time ... so for the first time ever I'm looking at a non-Sony and the little 30x zoom camera that Panasonic do and hopefully they have a longer life span.
