I have sony handycam DCR-TRV33E I have lost the CD i need to download the software for windows 8

any ideas please

Hi mk2000-99 and welcome.

However, there is no Windows Vista/7/8 software available.

The USB connection is NOT supported since Windows XP so you have two options:

1. If your computer has a firewire socket (aka DV-in, iLink) then no software is required and using an iLink cable you should be able to import your videos to Windows Movie Maker. Windows supports iLink natively.

2. If your computer does not have a firewire input or a card slot that will take a firewire card (and very few do these days) you will have to buy a USB Video Capture Device and connect this to your Camcorder using the analogue cable Yellow/Red/White. There will be a little loss of quality because the signal is being converted from Digital -> Analogue -> Digital. Something like this will do - but make sure it is Windows 8 compatible.
