The camera indeed increases the ISO to be able to meet your "required" shutter speed

High ISO makes the the image look grainy and flat because the higher the ISO, the more colour info gets lost.

As far as I know, you can't zoom in during playback on a movie.

1/2500 is really high IMHO!

Hi,

I recently used my HDR-CX730VE.

Because I wanted to capture something which was moving very fast I decided to manually select shutter speed at 1/2500. The camera selected the other parameters automatically.

Because the object was at a distance I used some zoom... I can't quantify it but probably no more than half the available (optical) zoom.

The picture ended up being grainy and "flat".

Lighting conditions were OK. Outdoors but cloudy.

Is this becuase the camera increase the ISO setting? Is there a way to limit this or to know it's going to happen?

Also, is it possible to zoom in during playback?

Thanks,

Ori

Hi,

You're probably right. I would have tried something a little slower if I
would have realised it would be grainy. Thing is I couldn't see it in the
playback (no zoom).
If I would have reduced the max gain of the AGC would it have helped?

Ori

If your chosen gain was higher than the max AGC, then indeed it will improve your image quality!

The lower the ISO, the less grain you'll see, that's always applicable.
