I'm getting about half a second of audio drop-out at the end of the 2gb file segments on both of these cameras. This is very annoying when recording long events. Is there a fix?

Hi Wotan, welcome to the Sony Forums

You don't mention your workflow or the app(s) you're using, but the 2GB file limit is a known limitation of the FAT32 format. All cameras shooting AVCHD require memory cards to be formatted this way, which basically carries a maximum file size and which forces the creation of a new file as soon as the limit is reached.

The fix, in short, is to make sure you are copying over every single file associated with a clip. Importing with something like PlayMemoriesHome should do this for you and deal with the file recombination automatically.

More complex editors such as Sony Vegas and Final Cut Pro do require you to use a particular import method in order to retrieve all essential 'sidecar' files along with your clips.

However simply copying .mts files over to an editing app is known to result in audio dropouts.

Cheers

Mick

Many thanks Mick. I've only recently moved to card recording and just dragged and dropped to store files on external drives. I edit in Vegas 11 Platinum and importing the files via the PMB software, supplied with my recently purchased NEX VG20, resulted in the delivery of a single file to drop into Vegas.
