thanks for suggestion. i would but i'm abroad and need it.

if you travel a lot, trade it in for a toshiba, they come with international warranties as standard (1-3years depending on model, and extendable)

oh, and their build quality is better than sony's

(yes, from that you may gather that I'm having problems with a vaio and not enjoying the run-around looking for the solution... )

not to mention this BB which seems to allow me to post replies to threads, but not new threads, arrargghhhhh!!!!

recently my monitor began to flicker and then darkened. i have been unable to recover the normal display. any suggestions?

it's still under warranty. and the solution is to send it back fro repair.

however, because i'm abroad etc., my question is whether and in what circumstances teh screen no longer works. i'd don't recall bashing it more than usual and the screen when it does show momentarily is normal. for a few seconds it flickers and then blanks.... it probably does need replacing - i'm interewsted to know it may have happened, whether anyone else has had a similar problem and may have an idea of what it could be - and, in the final analysis, whether ther eis any hope of it fixing itself to save me time and travel....?

I've got the same problem on a GRX516MD
the screen is blinking and then go to darkness
with an external monitor i have no problem

the laptop is 1,5 year old,
it is the second time where my sony notebook is out of use
over 2 years (pévious model was an FX)
Last time after upgrading Bios suppled by sony vaio site
i couldnt boot anymore,
i send it for repair they changed motherboard
and it cost me 900 Euros

Basta
can go on like this, i switch to another brand

I also have this blinking problem. It appears suddenly on a 5 monthes old Vaio !

Now, when I start the Vaio, the LCD screen works good until XP starts. I see the winshit logo as a flash and the screen is black.
In fact, if I look at the screen with an extra light close from it, I could see the screen. The problem is that Winshit shuts down the retro light !

Does someone have an idea to set the light with Winshit !!!

If it's 5 months old get VAIO Link to pick it up and repair it for you. Shouldn't take long as it's done in Alsace.
