...good afternoon from sunny UK, I've just upgraded the VGN-FZ11M from WIn vista to win 7 32 bit os, unfortunately before considering upgrading the RAM to 2* 2Gb's...How do I get around this- easily...!?#

Hi wilco602003 and welcome.

According to Sony's Specifications for your model, the maximum RAM installable is 2GB (2 X 1GB)

If Vista ran OK with 2GB, Windows 7 should be OK.

...thanks for the info Blencogo, i was aware of this limitation using a Vista OS but since upgrading the OS to Win 7 (32 bit) I downloaded the Crucial Memory Advisor tool...viz.

...when it struck me that perhaps utilising a 64 bit Bus would speed up throughput a tad...Now what you appear to be suggesting is that:-

...doubling the Bus width on the notebook will not make any appreciable difference...(WIN 32 bit vs WIN 64 bit)
...increasing the RAM is not within the SONY specn...true, but why are Crucial suggesting that doubling the RAM from 2*1GB to 2*2GB is acceptable with a WIN 7 32 or 64 bit OS...

...I appreciate that what Crucial are suggesting is quite possibly based on commercial need rather than the Customer's, especially after going thru' the pre-installation checklist...Good Lord, simply defragging my HD would make one hell of a difference especially using large spreadsheets...

...waddya say Blencogo, must admit I'm tending to lean in yr direction on reconsidering the issue...
