Vaio VPCEB3F4FE - power problems...

I was using my laptop, when it suddenly turned off (possibly due to over heating).

When I tried to turn it on the next morning, it would not turn on. When the charger is plugged in, the charging light on the laptop is not on.

I have tried using a different charger and another fully charged battery but it still doesn't turn on. I tried powering it through the mains (without the battery) but still nothing.

Any suggestion on what the problem is?

Hi alexm456,

It would seem that you have a power board/motherboard problem. This is impossible to diagnose at distance and suggest that if your notebook is in warranty you contact Support. Otherwise you could seek help from one of Sony’s repair partners or Google for a repairer.

Try doing a hard reset. Look for a small hole where you could poke it with a paper clip. Press it for 10 seconds and try again.

There is no such thing on a Vaio. I would listen to someone who knows what they are talking about and follow Rich912's advice.

Thanks for all the replies so far!

So I opened up the Vaio and found the CMOS battery, I disconnected it and then reconnected it but to no avail. The thing is still dead.

I assume that is what you were referring to mibroom25? I was tempted to look into your repair service, but don't know what other BIOS reset you could do, other than what I've attempted?

It's looking like an expensive repair job, so may be more economic to buy a new laptop unfortunately...

Hi alexm456,

Sounds like it needs a BIOS reset. When VAIOs overheat they tend to go into the state that you're looking at. What's needed is a BIOS reset which involves removing the casing, but then it is important to address why it was overheating. It can be that the fan is blocked with dust or just blocked vents if you were using it on a duvet or cushion.

My company is a Vaio authorised service centre that would do it all for £59.95 including collection and return, if that helps.
