keyboard automatically types/Boot manager always loads

Hi,

Each time I load my laptop (Sony VAIO VPCEB1EOE) the boot manager automatically loads. It has been doing this for the past few days. I have tried to restore my machine but this has not had the desired effect.

A few other strange things have happened/are happening - my mcafee software was disabled which I didn't touch. When I attempted to te-enable this failed. I had to re download this last night. I have no viruses, I have de-fragmented my machine and ran all the tests I can run! Everything is apparently fine.

Once i get past the boot manager screen I find that at the password screen the full stop key is automatically typing in the password field (I didn't know this was the full stop key until I left MS Word open). The key doesn't seem to be sticky. It also occasionally does this when i open google and when i go to the windows icon it will sometimes type lots of full stops in the search field.

Can anyone suggest any solutions?

Hi Mark,

It sounds like a keyboard hardware fault to me - you haven't spilt any liquids on it have you?

Boot Manager can be invoked by pressing the spacebar as well as F8 and along with the full stops, it points to a faulty keyboard - are you still within warranty?

You can try reinstalling the keyboard drivers and reassigning the keyboard language but my feeling is a hardware problem needing repair.

I would phone Sony support for advice.

Thanks Sony have suggested completely restoring my system which I would like to avoid given it will mean losing all of the programs I have installed on my machine!

Is there anything I need to be aware of when attempting to reinstall the keyboard drivers? Is this a straight forward exercise?

sorry should also have added that it is within warranty and I haven't spilt anything on it.

I've ran pretty much every test I can on the machine and it is apparently problem free...

Hi Mark,

did you have any success sorting this issue out? I've been experiencing exactly the same thing, except for me it is the [ key that is causing me the problems.

I did a system restore which didn't work. But did manage to sort the McAfee issue by uninstalling/reinstalling the software.

As with you there have been no spilt liquids etc on keyboard.

Not sure what to do next.

I am having the same problem but with the 'g' key. It doesn't do it all of the time but I would like to try and sort it, has anyone had any luck with a solution yet? I tried a full system restore but made no difference.
