I think you will need a new socket to be safe.

You can buy a new power socket for £3.90 but it is a big job to take the Vaio apart, remove the motherboard and solder the new jack in place.

If you shop around you may find a repairer who will do this for about £55.

My mum accidentally hoovered up the plastic cylinder in the centre of the power jack on my laptop, exposing the 2 pins inside and stopping my power supply from plugging in.(Attached is an image of a laptop with similar problem, although the plastic centre in mine is completely missing with no broken plastic remaining http://www.efemt.com.au/images/cms/brokensony.jpg). Repair shop quoted me £120 +VAT to replace the entire jack, which I definitely cannot afford! I could buy a replacement part but wouldn't be comfortable dismantling and repairing the laptop myself.

What I'd like to know is whether there is any way of externally repairing the jack. If I bought a new jack, could I pull out the centre and put it into the existing one? Or is that just stupid?

Any thoughts welcome! Thanks.
