My sound keeps distorting

I've only had my laptop about 3 month and now my sound had started to distort. Can anyone help? I hope it's not a hardware problem...Had to format the other week because a virus had messed up my computer files, about a week after is when it started to distort the sound when watching videos, playing music etc.

Hi Love4MusicUK,

A few things that you can try...

1 Check that there are no enhancements enabled. Right click the speaker icon in the system tray and select Sounds > on the playback tab select Speaker/HP and then click properties > on the enhancements tab check ‘Disable all sound effects’ and then apply.

2 Check Vaio Support for updated audio drivers.

3 Uninstall the device in Device Manager and then reboot and reinstall drivers.

4 If by any chance you have installed any third party audio software since the recovery then try uninstalling .

I've installed audio programs, like Sony Acid Pro, Cinescore and Adobe Auition but not sure if they could cause it?

I've done the steps above and it hasn't worked. It seems to be the right speaker that is distorting but when i put headphones on there's no distortion

Unfortunately, in order to eliminate third party software as the cause, I have a feeling that support will ask you to do a further factory reset before accepting it for repair

Hardware related when it's only 4 month old?Not what i'd expect after paying 700 pound for a laptop. How do i go about getting it sent in for a repair?

Hardware related when it's only 4 month old?Not what i'd expect after paying 700 pound for a laptop. How do i go about getting it sent in for a repair?

I forgot to mention that it's ok below a certain volume and also when the volume is turned down full i can still hear sound. I thought that maybe some settings for the audio are set too high?

That is of course a possibility, but if it is one speaker that is distorting the only alteration I can think of is balance.

Go to Control Panel > Sounds and click on the playback tab. Click on Speaker/HP and then Properties > Levels.

Under Audio Output click Balance. If left and right are set at the same level then I doubt that this is the cause of the problem.

You could always experiment with external speakers, but as you mention that this problem is not evident using headphones I doubt that it will be with external speakers either.

The balance is set the same on both speakers. I don't understand how this could of happened as i've never dropped or banged my Laptop? Thank you, i will do that
