Hi Dave,

Afraid the search has got lost!! However the workaround is far better than the original: -

http://club.vaio.sony.co.uk/clubvaio/GB/en/forum/viewthread?thread=57055

Sony have disabled Stereo Mix on Vaios running Vista and late XP models. They presumably see it as an anti-piracy measure but it has upset anyone who makes their own music or wishes to record internally.

I think the only option on the NR-Series is through the Mic socket - you can use it with an external Mic or as a Line-In. It should only be the Stereo Mix that is disabled, just choose the Mic as the recording advice and connect a line-in with the 3.5mm stereo jack.

Audio and possible Video Problems

The Video problem is fairly simple, unless I'm doing a Man look I can't see a search facility on this forum. So forgive me if this topic has already been covered.
It's probably me not looking properly.

The Audio is not so simple.
I bought my darling wife, (incase she reads this), a Sony Vaio vgn-nr32m a few months ago.
I originally bought it for her so she could organise her Photo's etc.

She asked me how hard it was to copy her old LP's, ( vinyl albums for the younger members) to CD.
Like a fool I said it was not difficult.

I use Audacity on my laptop ( an old Vaio running XP). To my surprise Audacity cannot record anything. I've double checked the options in Preferences and everything is set up like mine.
On my laptop there are record options for "Stereo Mix", Mic, and LIne In. On her laptop there are no options.

The sound card is a Realtek High Def, and the only option in the hardware setup seems to be a Mic. The only software that will record anything is the basic sound recorder.

The laptop is fully patched and up to date with Sony and Microsoft.

I'm not downgrading to XP. She only just getting used to Vista, and so am I for that matter.

Any ideas folks.

Regards

Dave
