System Recovery

Can any one explain why when I try todo A System Recovery it does not work I get a error message has failed because of an unknown error and asks me to try again

Hi Carl,

can you explain how you are trying to start the system recovery.?

Are you referring to windows System restore or Vaio recovery utility.?

Are you using the launching the Vaio recovery utility from within windows then using the HDD partition or recovery disc's, or are you booting from the recovery disc's..

Hi Carl,

no worries..

do you have Norton installed on your vaio.?

If so Norton product protection may be causing the problem, although the error message is normally different..

Have a look this link: Temporarily turn off product protection

If that doesn't help have you tried System Restore whilst in Safe mode.?

To boot into safe mode, Start your Vaio and when the Vaio logo appears press the F8 key repeatedly..

Many thanks have tried turning off Norton but problem still persists. will try in safe mode, will let you know if this works.

Hi Thalamus tried Restore in safe mode and it worked, very many thanks. I do not want to cheeky but I wonder if you help with another problem? This is to do with Windows Vista, I cant change my office assistant from "Paper Clip" I get a message insufficient memory and I can not find any fixes to this problem >

Hi Thalamus, I run system restore in safe mode which was successful and I have subsequently turned of Norton protection which I am pleased to say worked. Please accept my sincere thanks.
May I ask you if can help cur a problem with my Office Assistant which when I try and I get a message "INSUFFICIENT MEMORY"

Hi Thalmus have tried both previous suggestions to change Office Assistant neither have worked, have you any further thoughts?

Follow the solution steps 1 - 6, if still no joy have a look at Trond Ruud comments further down the page as the solution did not work at first for him either..

Hi Thalamus,
have tried the link but I can not follow the insructions of copyig accross I am not technically bright what I could with some laymans guide which I could follow.
