Does anyone else think that the noise from the DVD drive when watching a movie is unacceptable?

I have recently purchased a Sony Vaio FE31z and have been relatively impressed with the machine. However when watching a movie the DVD sounds like its rattling when the disc is spinning.

I've also noticed that the laptop speakers aren't very loud.

Is this just me?

Cheers,

Tom

Sony notebooks are about average on the volume front. PowerDVD includes an option to increase the volume for noisy environments & notebooks (DVD's are normally quieter than other sound sources because of their larger dynamic range).

The DVD readers are also about average for vibration noise but they usually quieten down once the disk has been recognised & starts playing. (unless the disk is slightly warped.)

You could try temporarily slowing the drivewhen viewing a DVD by using something like Nero DVD speed - a google search will find the download if you want to try this.
