how do I recover windows 8 key for a Tap 20 VAIO?

ok, so this has happened before where my Tap 20 will not install standard windows updates... I try everything, and then it dies. I have done a reinstall before, but need to do it again.

There was no recovery disk or windows 8 key with the machine either as a sticker or on the box. no cd. nothing, just windows 8 pre installed. So I have bought a reinstall disk, so how do I recover my windows 8 key ? I dont want to have to pay for one again.

Is there anyway to start and recover without reinstalling ?

The computer asked to restart and install updates... I pressed ok, and it shut down, did the orange screen installing updates blah blah... then said please wait..... I waited 48 hrs.... then had to do a hard restart as clearly it had crashed.

after the hard restart I get the vaio screen, and then the orange please wait, with the dots going round... and thats it. it does that for about 12 hrs, then even the dots stop.

So its buggered.

Any help would be appreciated, especially to recover the key. I have all my data backedup thank god.
