Camera defective?

Have Xperia Tablet Z (wifi) since June, running 4.1.2, rooted. Did not upgrade, waiting for KitKat.

Camera was working fine for both images & video. Now taking photos stopped working, but video is fine. To be more clear, video works whether in image mode OR video mode. Switching back & forth between the 2 icons does not fix it; cannot take still image photos.

Is there a way to uninstall/reinstall camera app? Is it a hardware issue? Is it a software issue?

I really don't want to bring it in & leave it for repair for weeks/months.

Any help & guidance is greatly appreciated

Settings > all > camera > clear data/cache > restart your tablet > check again
