Try Rickard solution. I'm using this way from the very beginning and it works almost perfect.

After disconnecting you may have some ghost pictures or videos in apps but they will disappear after some time.

I have used File Commander to access a shared folder in my PC.

I can see all files listed, I can see pictures using Album, but when I try to play a video or an mp3, I get an error message "Cannot play video" or "Cannot play song".

This is really annoying, especially because I was able to do simple things like these with my old tablet.

Are you sure you haven't deleted them?

settings > apps > all > album > clear data > restart the tablet

perhaps what you are seeing are thumbnails.

Hi uliwooly,

I quite sure I haven't deleted them.

Those files are in a folder in my PC and I would like to play them remotely using the SMB protocol.

How are you sharing the videos? are videos that you've recorded or downloaded from the playstore? if the later they could be copyright protected.

Have you tried mounting the share? You can do that from Settings -> Storage -> Remote shares.
