Xperia 1 III overheating

Hi,

I have a Sony Xperia 1 III since August 2021. It used to last a day on full battery until a few days ago, which I was happy with. However, for the past few days I have noticed that the phone has been overheating which leads to the battery rinsing rapidly.

Can someone advise what could be causing this and whether this can be rectified. I have tried rebooting the phone and closing the apps multiple times but to no fruition. It really is unusual as I have seen other brand phones that can handle the usage without getting overheated.

Any tips on resolving this or how I can get Sony to take notice. Thanks.

Hi both,

Thanks for your responses.

I also noticed that this heating up issue also coincided with the time my service provider started 5g service in our area. Therefore, I called them up to enquire whether this could be causing it.

They advised that I try the 4g network and so I changed the settings to only pick up 4g/3g/2g service. Since then it hasn't heated up and I have stayed with 4g. Plus I have found that my internet is so much faster on 4g than 5g so I am happy.

However, as soon as 5g service improves and perhaps Sony come up with updates to tackle phone heating issue, I would be happy to move back to it. But until then 4g does the job for me. Thanks.

Hi @arsamanu ;

You can try the usual steps (I suppose your device is fully updated), restart the device in safe mode to see if there is any third party app causing it. If the problem is there even in safe mode maybe you should try a software repair with Xperia Companion, but this solution will erase all your data as it will install a new software with the last version available.

Hi @arsamanu,

Mainly you can face this issue with the Xperia 1 lll due to its processor, snapdragon 888 and it will be considered as normal and nothing to worry about. But, as an extra mile you can try the steps mentioned by @NunoSEN2 and they might help alot.

Hey there,

Glad to know it's working now, and hopefully a new update gets released to allow you to use 5G without it heating up as it's a new technology still, and still being tested on how it's affecting and overloading the processors and other internal components.

Let's keep an eye on it for now, and hopefully it gets better with time.
