Xperia 1 iv shuts down at 20%
In the past week my 2.5 year old Sony Xperia 1 iv has started shutting down at 20% battery remaining.
It does this in a few different ways.
Sometimes it gets down to 20% battery and just beeps, but them immediately says 'shutting down'.
Other times it gets down to 20% then a few seconds later drops to 9% and then immediately shuts down.
A few times I have seen this happen when it manages to get down to as low as 14%. But still the same result of immediate shut down.
I have tried running in safe mode but it shuts down at 17% when I try that.
It's weird that it's such a sudden drop. And it hasn't happened gradually over time.
I've disabled various Android apps to see if any are causing this behaviour, but I've had no luck so far diagnosing the issue.
Are any other Xperia 1 iv users seeing this issue too?
Any advice to fix this would be great.
Thanks

Hi @KevMc21,
I think you shall try these steps:
- Battery Calibration: Sometimes, recalibrating the battery can help. To do this, let your phone drain completely until it shuts off, then charge it to 100% without interruption. Repeat this process a couple of times.
- Software Update: Ensure your phone's software is up to date. Sometimes, these issues are resolved with firmware updates.
- Battery Health Check: Use an app to check the health of your battery. If the battery health is significantly degraded, it might be time to replace it.
- Factory Reset: As a last resort, you can try a factory reset. Make sure to back up your data before doing this.

Thanks. But the problem was quite serious as the battery was inflating and pushing the back cover off.
I ordered a new original battery and back paneladhesive seal.
My phone is out of warranty so I was happy to replace the battery myself.
The Xperia 1 iv is now back to new condition with a new battery and back cover resealed.
You have to take care when doing the battery change to only use an official Sony battery and back cover adhesive edge seal.
The seal is actually the bit you have to do really carefully.
