Hi there,

Have you tried a factory reset?

Best wishes,

M

This used to happen to me on Android 9 but nowhere near as bad as it is now it can be half a dozen times a day. I have done a factory reset as when I did the update Google Pay said the software wasn't real. This fixed that problem but the unresponsive and randomly opening things is terrible

@Milwarddj

Does your phone has a protective film or glass? if it does, remove it and then test the touchscreen

Settings > support > xperia test > Display > touchscreen

I don't have any coverings on the screen and I've done the tests numerous times and they always work. I've had numerous phones over the years and the Sony has been the worst. Brands such as OnePlus and Oppo are miles in front. My partner has the Xperia 1 and that's not good either

Hi @KezzaRed

If I understand correctly your screen is unresponsive and randomly opens apps plus that it is worse in Android 10 than in Android 9.

You did a factory reset and it didn't help.

You confirmed @Uliwooly's question that there's nothing covering the screen.

Next steps might be to check how it is behaving in safe mode where the system runs with just the preinstalled Apps.

This is to test if you have an app running that interferes somewhere.

Or you might try a software repair with Xperia Companion, then don't restore your apps and test.

If nothing helps take up contact with Sony Xperia support and ask them.

You will find Xperia support contact possibilities in the support app on your phone.

Newly purchased Xperia 5 in August 2020.  JR210 (dual SIM, international version) Android 10

Right from the beginning, the device would randomly reboot, often multiple times. The power key will also stop functioning and only a restart (via Google Accessibility) will correct this.  The Xperia 5 is usable, but the crashes are unpredictable.  I have 100GB of free space in the unit, SIM card checks ok, and no viruses.

I have completed:
updated apps / removed apps
a factory reset
reinstalled software via Xperia companion
powered only during safe mode (rebooting and power key problems remained)

I took my device to Sony service where I live and the battery and a list of components were replaced.
I was hoping that all of the problems would be corrected, but they persist.  It seems that this is a software issue, but I have no idea how to go about correcting it.  Perhaps it is a combination of device and software.

Prolly the only different options you might have is from where you bought it.
