Xperia 10 gyroscope

Hello,

I am writing this post to mention a problem that has been around for the past few years in sonys mid-low range phones. The problem being they dont include a gyroscope!

This is a massive problem. Not only does it make it harder for games as mentioned in this other post:

BUT more importantly I use lots of map applications such as viewranger with ordnance survey. And you are able to use certain features with the compass and a "skyline" feature. However, since I have a xperia XA2 I cannot use these features. This is the same problem with the xperia 10, which I would love to upgrade to as sony phones ahve many great and unique features such as the camera button. However there is no gyroscope so it is offputting.

Also it is worth mentioning that even dedicated compass apps do not work properly, as even though the phone has a compass sensor, it lacks the gyroscope to give the accuracy when I rotate my phone. So it is hard to use it accurately meaning I dont really use it at all.

My other point for apps is ones such as skyviewer apps which allow you to view the stars/constellations. However, again this is not possible as there is no gyroscope for the phone to detect the movement and work out which way you are facing the phone to look at the stars.

Here are a few of what I believe to be quite important features of a mobile phone. Hence this is why I have mentioned them. I have also seen a couple of comments in other threads that say about the xperia 10 being designed for children so they dont necessarily need the sensors. I disagree completely as lots of adults are sensible and dont spend lots of money on phones, hence buying more budget versions. However they then have no sensor when they need it!!

Please could someone explain why gyroscopes arent included (ignoring the fact it saves money.... Gyroscopes are so common now along with other sensors that this is not a good reason.) and let me know if they are intended to be included in the future.

Thank you very much,

Sorry this is not written to my best ability, as I wanted to get it finished sooner and actually get some sense out of Sony.

Hello, Thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately location is different to having a gyroscope. The gyroscope detects movement around axis, whereas to find your location you need a GPS in the phone which the XA2 and Xperia 10 both have.

So it's the sensor responsible for rotation, is that affected on your phone? I'm asking cause they keep fusing technologies and the slicker the better, so my view is that they could have minimized the sensor or added an alternative tech, to do its function. The test is no longer in the Support app, right?
