I have a issue when burning Dvd's on this machine, it is currently back at sony who have rang me 3 times to say that they cant find any fault, currently they are looking at it yet again and will contact me to advise on the outcome they have had this machine now for some 20 days and I have not got the greatest confidence in there call centre staff as I keep having to repeat myself.

I have had the machine for the last 10 months, the machine has had no firmware updates, since day one installed Nero6 and have been using Ritek Branded Disc (G05 Dye) with no problems, about 10 days before contacting sony I was getting errors when trying to verify the data that had been written it would always fail the verification process and it would always start failing at say the last 1gb of data, I could write 2gb data to a dvd and verify it ok, this problem never occurred on CD's, I tried several methods to solve this to no avail so in the end i factory restored it and used Record Now to burn a DVD and again towards the end there was an issue with the Data, I reinstalled Nero6 and again bad data towards the end. I arranged with sony to have the unit picked up and the system is still with them.

I have been informed compatability issues with Nero even though i created a disc in Record Now i was told that i had the settings wrong had to adjust the settings even though i was simply copying a disc the guy i spoke to advised that as the setting was not set correctly then the software would only copy a percentage of the disc, if the setting were wrong on record now then surely it would indicate this prior to copying the disc, I also explained that the disc properties indicated that the data was the same size however he was not realy interested and was adament he was correct and would not listen, i also have an issue as it will not burn at 8x on 8x media? this is not really an issue that concerns me but as it is with sony at the minute i thought i would bring it to there attention, my feeling is that there is a problem with the DVD unit and surely that replacing this unit is a very cheap option for Sony.

I would be grateful if any one could offer some feedback on this problem.

Cheers

A number of the A series have the DW-D56A optical drive fitted, if this is the case with your model then the problem is almost certainly hardware related.

Search that drive number on this forum and you will understand what I mean.
