a6300 face recognition

I have an older a6300 camera with an 18-105 PZ lens attached to it, but occasionally the face recognition option is greyed out and when I try and select it it says 'not available when shooting 4k'. But then at other times it works just fine. Any ideas?

You cannot use the Face Detection function with the following functions:

I should have said that this is in video mode. Sometimes the option for face recognition is just greyed out and sometimes it is available. I am not changing any of the other settings on the camera.

Is it not possible to use any Scene in it that is not available?

I only use the camera in video mode and in this mode the face recognition is sometimes greyed out and sometimes not. There does not seem to be any logic to this.

The logic is described in the manual as Mr Manolo has suggested:

You cannot use the Face Detection function with the following functions:

  • Zoom functions other than the optical zoom
  • [Sweep Panorama]
  • [Picture Effect] is set to [Posterization].
  • When using the [Focus Magnifier] function.
  • [Scene Selection] is set to [Landscape], [Night Scene] or [Sunset].
  • [Record Setting] is set to [120p]/[100p].
  • During High Frame Rate shooting

I don’t have any of those functions selected. As I said, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.
