A99 error messages?

I have had my A99 for around 2 weeks with no hitches until today!

It was working normally and then a clunk noise and the following message on screen

CAMERA ERROR TURN CAMERA OFF THEN ON

I tried turning off and on but the switch had no effect and the message stayed on the screen! The only way to get rid of the message was to undo the battery grip and take the camera battery out and put it in again!

It worked normally for a little while then happened again!

I have took a few shots since the second time and up to now it not done it again as yet!

Not impressed have to admit and wonder if anyone come across this problem on there A99?

UPDATE!!

This has happened yet again today after half hour of use so it obviously something wrong with the camera? (different lens and no battery grip today) Hopefully I am going to get it swapped out for a new one?

I will leave this here for others though in case it happens to anyone else?

Hello mierwin - Welcome to the Sony Forums

It does sound like there is some kind of internal fault within the camera. As you have had the camera for around 2 weeks, you should be able to get it exchanged by the retailer - but if you need to contact Sony Customer Services instead you can use the details on the following page:

Thanks, Simon

I have had exact same messages and sent my camera 2 weeks ago to the UK sony repair centre at Pencoed.

Yesterday they were requesting I send them my flash although the problem has nothing to do with the flash!

See above thread regarding my problem

and above thread for another happy sony customer.

Top of the line Sony cameras both with faults....very worrying but the customer service is also very worrying!

It is not something you expect I agree on a £2K+ camera but like everything else there bound to be small numbers that develop faults? It nothing like the other famous brand that have more faults than I have ever seen in there high end recent models?

I cannot fault they are going swap mine for a new body and hopefully the new one will be fine : -)

I was gutted when I got the error don't get me wrong and was not a happy bunny LOL!

I have shot over 20K images on the A77 without a hitch so I did expect more from the Pro body of the A99?

As long as it is the small numbers that I have read about I am otherwise over the moon with the results I am getting when the camera works?

Your case about wanting flash is indeed strange unless there something we don't know?

I will keep an eye on your thread to see the outcome?

Update on my faulty camera.

It was sent back from SONY Pencoed after 3 weeks with them saying they could find no fault?

If any of you with camera technical knowledge would care to watch the fault in action with any words of advise I would be grateful.

I have invested a lot of money in SONY.

Please forgive the amateurish video!

Hi,

I had the same issue with my A99. The reason is a hardware issue with the apature control. It looks to me that they put too much greese inside on some models, because all my lenses were suddenly spoiled with some greese that came from the a-mount mechanics.

Unfortunatly the camera does not always log internally an camera error. So it took me two times to send the body to our excelent Sony service company (Schuhmann, Linz/Austria). The second time the error message was logged and showed a hardware issue with the apature control. The complete mirror box was changed (which include the apature steering mechanics). Since then I had no issues any more and another 10000 shutter releases.

Maybe this helps you to get your issue fixed.

Regards, Wolfram

PS: Contact the Austrian Sony Service http://www.schuhmann.at/ , I am sure they can help you with your issue.

Ok I have the same problem for no reason my camera just stopped working, and up came the message, "camera error turn power of then on" ha what a joke felt like I was on candid camera. Whatever I try it will not work at all, just the message keeps coming back on the screen. Now I paid lots for this camera and all my other Sony cameras and lens, this A99 was bought in April 2013 so do I now take it that its gonna cost me money to get it repaired? If something is faulty inside, oh and this camera hasnt been abused, why should sony not put it right free of charge. It seems there are more people out there with this fault but no one seems to have a solution as to whats causing it.
