Sony A6300 Flash Issues?!?

Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone on here can help me as I am currently panicking that my camera is faulty!

I have a Sony A6300 that I primarily use for video and photos outside. I've been wanting to change it up and do some Indoor photography with flash.

My partner has a pair of Neewer N250W strobes with the wireless transmitter (this has just a single metal pin) obviously it fires with her Nikon camera and even an old Olympus SLR camera but will not fire on my Sony A6300! I have even bought a hotshoe converter and that also doesn't work. I have never had anything mounted in the shoe aside from a rode videomic pro.

Has anyone got any other ideas? Short of hoping the camera works and risking buying a Sony branded flash is there a way I can test this? I don't want any fancy control, I just want a flash when I press my shutter

Thanks in advance

Hi Anoceanoflights,

Sony usually lists the compatible accessories with each camera model. I've checked the compatible flashes with your camera, and couldn't find the  Neewer N250W included. I believe that's the reason why it wouldn't fire up with your camera. I'd suggest that you try one of the models here: https://support.d-imaging.sony.co.jp/www/cscs/accessories/compatibility.php?area=gb&lang=en&mdl=ILCE...

The Neewer units can be set to go off whenever a flash goes off so you could use the a6300 built in flash as a trigger.
To use a non Sony trigger the camera flash has to be set to anything other than wireless (Counter intuitive). I'm not sure if the Neewer trigger will work or not.
