Using the Sony Alpha DT 55-200MM with the Nex 5

Hi,

I have been having a hard time deciding what to do with the following problem.

The Sony Emount 18-200mm lens cost upwards of £600. The Amount lenses have (apparently) very slow auto focus. What is the best option to ensure I have a zoom lens for my upcoming trip?

I'm interested to know if anyone has used the Sony Alpha DT 55-200MM with the Nex 5 and if so, how good are the results?

Also, does it have to be the Sony manufactured LA-EA1 a mount adapter that you need to buy to use this lens or can you buy the cheaper (Minolta) alternative. What's the benefit to buying the Sony mount?

I could just about afford the £600+ to get the emount lens but would really prefer to keep my spending below £450.

Any advice/thoughts very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi Jon.

It will be interesting to see the experiences of some other Nex 5 users here once they see this thread.

In the meantime, I am investigating how an alternative lens adapter will affect the auto-focus capability of the camera and will let you know as soon as I have some information for you.

Thanks

Simon
