2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

I can confirm with keytone I also get a weird echo/buzz sound after moving around menu. Also with volume around 1-5 the audio comes buzzy or distorted. . .if volume is high enough maybe over 7 the distortion goes away. Thats with my SKY + HD box plugged into HDMI 3

I am glad that I am not the only one with this issue.

@PracticallyGeek, what do you mean by volume 1-5? I have the volume set to around 15 and I still can hear the noise. With movies you can not easily hear it, but it is still there.
When you hear the keytones, it is just plain obvious.

@NickCo1979 andy idea if this is on the list to be fixed?

@corpsmaster I will confirm later but at a certain volume my sky output is distorted but after a certain level maybe over 5 it can't be heard. . The sound after the keytone I think may just be the sound effect rather then distortion but can't say for sure

Aside from 5.1 issue I haven't noticed any sound problems.

Might be worth mentioning if people are talking about the tv speakers, sound bar, optical, ARC etc

Havent noticed any sound issues after the update on tv speakers. Only thing
is the lip sync issue on ARC and no surround in apps.. otherwise no problem
(with the sound though)

My Sony 55X8505C tv is turning it self on after few hours this started after the latest update. Has anybody else this problem.

Have you checked the settings? Theres a menu for the tv to automaticly turn
on or off at a specific time of day or timer

Doesn't anyone else suffer this bravia sync reboot issue if source is not selected properly? Is there something i could try?

My 49x8305 turns itself on I thought it was just me as nobody has mentioned it before

And I have not seen a setting to turn the TV on

Yes - I've noticed that happens with mine. Still lots for Sony to sort out. I wonder how they would have taken it if we had been allowed to buy the tv in stages with a final payment around October - or maybe later depending on HDD recording being made available. Poor show all round.
