2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

Take it back and get a refund as soon as you can.

You will have to live with these issues until you get a new TV.  I have for 13 months now.

I wake up during the night to find my TV turning it's self on & off without the LED light ever coming on. Soon as I push the power button on the remote it freezes the TV.

this pictures shows 3D mode resolution issues very clear. 3D mode you should switch on in disc menu. Is it possible to fix this issue in next firmware?

Thank god for seeing this!!! I thought I was going mad and the only one having this issue. I have the BT UHD Youview box (I work for BT) and I have loads of video stutter but never audio. I have had the TV changed (4K 49" Android TV) and it made no difference. I have also had BT in to change the UHD box and again no difference! I opened a case with Sony UK and they flatly refuse to acknowledge there is an issue even though I have sent them video camera footage of the stuttering. My friend has the same BT UHD box on a non android Sony 4K TV and it works a charm. I think I'm stuck. Sony UK refuse to give me a refund and the Sony Centre shop I bought it from refuse also so unless I go down the small claims court route I'm stuck. To top it off I also get random reboots of the TV and the remote control is sometimes unresponsive. All in all pretty disgusted with Sony.

This may have nothing to do with the bt uhd box issue but I posted a couple of weeks back that I couldn't get any usb device to play any tv recordings without a noticeable stutter. I haven't found anyone else with the same usb tv recordings issue but the two may be linked. I really hope there's a solution to the bt box issue as I suspect it'll resolve whatever it is causing the stutter I'm getting.

What file format are you using from the USB? And what TV model?

@k11jrp
I mentioned this earlier in the thread. Sony have offered me a full refund due to the same type of issues.
Just keep logging faults asking to fix the issue. They cannot say others have not reported them as they have. Especially the Stuttering.

I can't choose the file format for tv recordings, the tv formats the usb
device and chooses it's own format (which is probably ex fat but I'm not
certain). The tv is 55x8005c

The small claims route is very cheap and effective. In many cases the fact that you have initiated the process will result in a win making a trip to the local court unnecessary. I have had many successes against companies such as BT and Vodafone.
