49XE8396....Can't detect USB memory stick over 1gb

Can't seem to find any solution for this at the moment.. If I format a 1gb memory stick in Fat32 and copy a .ts 4k piece of video on it , it works perfect..  If I add a still image to the same stick it works perfect.

I notice that the TV copies 2 folders onto the 1gb memory stick as well--  Android and  Lost.DIR,  but this never happens on the 8gb memory stick which I guess is why the TV does not want to see it.......

If I format an 8gb memory stick and do the same, the USB is not detected.

I have also formatted another 1gb memory stick and that works perfect..........

The TV auto updated with the latest software a short while ago and I have never bothered to try another memory stick until now as I only wanted to see what 4K looked like when I first got the TV from new, so I am not sure if it has always been this way.

I have tried all 3 USB slots.......

I am assuming that the TV does support USB memory greater than 1gb.

I have tried leaving the TV unplugged for a while but that does not solve it..

I have not done a factory reset as I will lose various adjustments so I wonder if anyone else has had this problem and managed to solve it.  Thanks

One other thing I notice that in the system menu where you can eject a USB device, when I plug the 32gb memory  stick in is says SCSI device sucsessfuly ejected?..Does not make any sense,,,,

Hi there,

There's some guidance about using USB devices with your TV here. We hope this helps.

Best wishes,

Ed

Sadly is does not help with the situation. Most of that link talks about USB HDD and not memeory sticks.

The part I don't yet understand it that when I plug a memory stick greater than 1gb, in the system menu is says SCSI device safely ejected..  I assume that any USB over 1gb uses different drivers and the Sony TV does not understand.  I can't be the only person to have this issue....I have tried two different makes of USB sticks. One is an 8gb and the other a 32gb..  None are detected...Both were formated to Fat32

Decided to do a test...  I have a USB holder for a Micro SD card...  So I formatted the Micro SD card to Fat32 and copied a .ts 4k file on it pu the MicroSD card in the uSB holder............ and it works perfect......

The standards memory sticks ( Pen Drive ) I have are a 32gb USB3 and the other an 8gb USB2 will not work..

So still not sure why the TV wont recognize them but it must be something to do with the SCSI identification of those Drives.

Hi there,

I'm wondering if the same happens if you format the drive to NTFS?

Yes..I did try all varieties of format in desperation. It is something to
do with the USB DRIVERS which for the standard USB stick I have are
detected as SCSI.......

Hi again,

I think the only step to take here is a factory reset. Keep in mind that your Google account will save a list of your apps and will download them automatically once the reset is complete.

Thanks for the update advise..The problem is it will lose all the other setting like contrast, brightness, etc, etc, etc, etc which took an age to get it to how I want it..  plus all the other selections...

It is a pity there is not an option so SAVE all settings to Google...and the reset and ...download all settings..That can't be beyond the will of man....
