A80J YouView option missing after successful tuning

Hello all,

New A80J and ran through setup. English and United Kingdom selected and agreed to all privacy terms etc. just to make sure.

Tuner successfully picked up 47 channels (we are not on a main transmitter so only receive a subset of channels).

I then expected to be given the option of using Sony or YouView in order to view TV.

I've not seen any options to select either and the EPG appears to be the Sony flavour. Going into settings again their is no options to switch when going into the TV Channels section.

I've went through initial setup again and then when that failed I factory reset and went through again.

One thought i've had is whether youview doesn't like the fact that the TV has only picked up 47 channels.

Would that have effect?

Otherwise anything I'm missing? Thanks!

Hey there,

If i remember correctly I believe that Sony, or Youview changed the naming and updated it recently, who knows 🤷🏼‍♂️ .
The point is, right now I think that you can find it in ''Live TV & catch up'' and if it's not on the home menu, it should be in Sony Select.
You can check that as well: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/articles/00254819

Cheers.

Thanks for your help. It's led me to a realisation that was probably obvious at the time but escaped me.

I am in the UK. I'm aware that 'catch-up apps' are missing at this time i.e bbc iplayer etc.

I'm not believing that the entire youview app is missing from the 2021 Sony TV's. So the option isn't even there.

To your point around Sony Select - the Live TV... app isn't even there for me.

Hey camphillrnr,

Ohhh, gotcha now.
Sadly, I got some bad news for ya 😬, it seems that for all the 2021 models all the catch up services aren't available yet.
And Sony has been releasing a statements that it's not a ''Technical'' fault, but an issue with the license with the 3rd party service owners.
I think they're talking about BBC and Youview
On the bright side, they've been saying that it will be available within 2021, and they've been advising customers to reply on ''Chromecast'' which is built in the TVs, or use an external devices like a Firestick.
It's quite annoying for a new line up of TVs, but hopefully Sony gets to sort this out soon as they've been promising.

Cheers.

@SkyNet404 @camphillrnr

The Players aren’t there, but YouView should be, under ‘Live & Catchup TV’.

YouView should not be fazed by you being on a ‘Freeview Lite’ transmitter.

I would be inclined to Factory Reset the TV yet again at this stage, and see if it reappears.

And if not, go back to the retailer with the issue.

My favourite bedtime reading is a Sony product manual…

@royabrown2 True, Just cause the apps are missing, the guide itself and Youview shouldn't really get affected.

Thanks for the further comments on this. Below is the response I received when I stressed to Sony support that I wasn't asking them about catchup/iplayer/All4 etc. apps but only the Youview app:

"With reference to your enquiry regarding your Sony XR-55A80J, we would like to highlight that YouView is also not available currently on your TV. Application is expected to be available during 2021."

Well, that's disappointing.

Hopefully it gets resolved soon though.

Don't know if anyone still following this thread, but TV update available giving iPlayer, itv hub, all4, my5 and youview app. Can default the TV button on the remote to use the youview planner rather than Sony TV one, allowing to go back in time/days and launch player from there. No option to pause live TV sadly though, but great step forward.
