Black bars on some 4K shows on Apple TV.

Hi,

I have my KD-65XG9505 hooked up to the 4K Apple TV. I have full Dolby Vision set-up. However, some shows that are supposed to be on full 4K has black bars going horizontally on the top and bottom of the screen. I was under the impression that 4K should ‘fill’ my screen, but some shows/films do not. How can I remove this, please?

Thanks

Are you aware that most cinema movies are recorded in cinemascope? That correspond to a 21:9 ratio while your TV like most of the TV sold is 16:9. It does not have anything to do with resolution

Thank you for that. However, is there a way to change the ratio so that I can 'fill' the screen. I am happy with losing some film on either side. I want to see what it looks like.

Thanks

Apart from my personal opinion that is better to have the bars than stretching the image or cut it to fit the screen, unfortunately no you cannot change the screen format from a 4k source.
