Bug: XE9005 fails to provide location to apps

Irritatingly, it seems that Android isn't providing a location estimate from WiFi to apps.  For instance, the Accuweather App can't get the location to provide weather.

More of a problem is that Eurosport Player can't get access to the location, which stops it running at all (see https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/android-tv/eurosport-quot-not-available-in-your-country-quot-even-wh...)

Please could you fix this for the next firmware update Sony.

Thanks

Richard

Hi Richard,

Can you make sure the Location status on your TV is 'On'

To set the Location to On -

  1. Press the HOME button on the remote control.
  2. Select Location in the Personal category.
  3. Select Location status and set to On

Let me know if this resolves the problem.

Cheers,

Hi Sean,

Thanks, yes it's set to On, and WiFi is on.

Mysteriously this has started working now.  I happened to go to the Opera web browser and go to whatsmyip.org to find out some details for Eurosport to debug why their Eurosport Player couldn't find the location... and it all worked!

This still must be a bug in the Android TV software as it should be able to do this without the user going to websites etc.  Hopefully it'll remember the location!

Cheers

Richard
