Since the PKG6.2858 update I have a dimming issue with my Sony A1. The picture pre update was stunning, however since the update I am experiencing varying levels of brightness which has completely ruined ths set for me. Colours are lacklustre and mostly dim, a factory reset has failed to rectify the problem. It seems that a number of owners on the AVSForums are experiencing similar problems. Only hope that Sony bring out a fix but not holding my breath.
I'm returning my 2 month old a1 due to severe burn in despite all the precautions I took.Sony support said it is a defective panel and are replacing it next week
My only concern is that I didn't have the dimming issue at all and I hope the replacement doesn't suffer it!
Play a game that has a static HUD. God of War is a good example. Or play a cartoon game like Kingdom Hearts and you notice how dark it gets and because of that it also makes it look of saturated.
I am also from the US. I’m not sure how different the A1 is from America’s A1E.
I play gt sport regularly with no issues and that has a lot of static hud.
I'm aware of the issue and I was so worried about it that I didn't actually update my TV at first when I bought it 2 months ago.
I did it though and never had the issue Maybe it only affects people that got the original bugged firmware then updated to the most recent?
I went from the factory stock one right to the newest with no issues.
You either notice it or you don’t. Sony is catering to casuals who don’t now how to take care of TVs and just leave these kind in while they go shopping. So they dim it when 95% isn’t moving. It’s happening weather you notice it or not. I’m glad you don’t notice the problem but it is happening to your screen and saying things like that is why Sony isn’t not gong to fix it because people claim to not see it. It’s been on the last 2 updates. The only time the tv gets bright is when I put it in retial mode and play a demo video. The TV is RIGGED and everyone bought this 3000+ dollar tv to get gimped later.
Well going by your logic that also means the big was present in the factory firmware too.
I've looked up the bug and apparently switching inputs makes it bright again and doing that makes no difference.
If you don't believe me so be it but I am very particular with TV's and notice the smallest issue hence why I am getting a warranty exchange for a dark patch that everyone I've tried to show can't see.
Also this. I noticed the Peak Luminance Option is broke/rigged. There is no difference between High, Medium or Low. Only off. Here is a video I uploaded.

So is this pesty dimming issue ever going to be adressed? Or did everyone give up? I see that the Sony people don't bother answering anymore?
I put 3K into this TV, this was my first Sony in a while, let me tell you it's going to be my last. That dimming issue while I play videogames just RUINS everything. I can't believe this issue, one year later, is still a thing.
Hi Kyletto,
What ever happened with your A1E? Did they ever help?
I am also facing the same issue and am considering taking legal actions, as it is an issue introduced by the manufacturer AFTER my warranty expired.. I would be curious to find out whether or not you sorted out the issue
Years later and I am experiencing the same issues!
is there a fix?
Hey @SRT3333
It's safe to say that it's not a software related issue since the this was reported in 2018 and am sure Sony has released a LOT of software versions in this period that should've addressed this issue and many others, so can you provide us with you TV model and maybe we can check what can be done? Also, add the software version currently installed on it.
Cheers buddy.
