I see your point.... I guess that the statement here https://www.sony-asia.com/electronics/support/articles/00236050 applies solely to the US market, on which correct me if I am wrong but the W800 is the same product as the W805C (except the different TV tuners most likely)?

So what you are saying is that your view is that Sony will not in fact release Android 8 for 2015 models in Europe?

Why do you think that may be? Is the hardware (except the tuners) different between US, Asia Pacific and EU models of the W800 series?

From a purely principal stand point, should customers in different geographical regions not be entitled to the same user experience from a given product line?

@headnail  I am giving here my 2 cent too having no direct interest in the topic (I exchanged my w805c some 5 years ago for a 4k LCD than went to OLED and never come back  ). Don't know if Sony will ever update it to android 8 but I guess they won't spend any more time and money on a 6 years old model.

I already stated some of the differences that make even the same model different between different market, and yes indeed they have also different features for different market . Hope you don't take a tutorial on Android 8 as an official statement too. In Italy they were clear enough that they were trying but not ensure that they will do it (the same for Android 9 on 2017 models , that at the end was released )

The link I posted was not a tutorial

As much I've tried to determine the hardware differences (except the tuners) between US/EU/Asia models of W800C I've been unable to pin point any differences in SoC and/or RAM specs... where did you establish the differences?

Good on you for moving to OLED, was it a Sony?

A television is not made only of Soc an RAM, you have different features too that are specific for the market and so a different firmware (for my little knowledge about it i.e. US does not have PVR as it is forbidden, but spot an internet connected TV guide, in UK you have youview that is not working everywhere else, different voltage in US,different language and brodcaster even for the same tuner).

For the Oled yes i went for an A1 that unfortunately for personal reasons I had to leave behind (but it is still working) and now I have an LG CX and Panasonic GZ

Do a google search for the W800C service manual, it's applicable to regional models if I am not mistaken....ergo all underlaying hardware is identical (except tuners again maybe), the features you are referring to are all software based implementations of certain functionalities or lack thereof (i.e. PVR)...

Either way, everyone is entitled to their own views and opinions, I hope you (more like Sony) prove that mine are wrong...but I doubt it

It's been six months since the last update I thought Sony would have had this sorted out and released the firmware for europe by now.

Hey @stevenhenry,

They started the rollout of updates across the 2020-2021 TVs. Maybe this one will get an update soon.

Cheers.

Is there really any chance of them releasing an EU firmware for Android Oreo 8?

I mean, the post I had read is over a year old now just before the Asian fw dropped.

I have a KD-49X8005C in my daughters' room and it's painfully slow.

Hi gregtse, sometimes a power cycle resolves the issue. Try unplugging everything for two minutes.
