HDMI eARC Setup for XR65A95KU, HT-9A, and Playstation 5

I have brought a XR65A95KU TV, with the Playstation 5 using the eArc port however, I am thinking of purchasing the HT-9A (which also wants to use the eARC) and I wish to know how to resolve ths wth Dolby vision on all sources.
Any advice / Links would be appreciated.

Hi @Mystri74

I have an Apple 4K TV set to 4K Dolby Vision connected to HDMI 2 and zero problems with Dolby Vision on my XR-55A95K. Simply ensure that the HDMI input you choose is set to Enhanced Format (see below, I have HDMI 2 set to Enhanced).

Alternatively pass through your PS5 using the HDMI IN on the HT-A9 (I assume you mean A9 and not 9A). Page 8 of the HT-A9 manual states it supports Dolby Vision video.

Adding to  @LightFoot sound advice, you are ‘wasting’ the eARC port by using it for the PlayStation 5, as eARC is intended to pass audio from the TV, or some other device plugged into the TV, to an audio-playing device, such as the soundbar you are contemplating.

So while this port can certainly handle the video from the PS5, the eARC (extended Audio Return Channel) capability isn’t being used, as the PS5 can’t do anything with it.

So give this port to whatever soundbar you choose, and move the PS5 to another HDMI port, with the HDMI enhanced as @LightFoot recommends.

If you choose an HDMI port on the TV, then the PS5 will send its audio and video to the TV, and the TV will reroute the audio down the eARC strands of the HDMI cable in HDMI 2, now going to the soundbar, from which the thunderous sounds of your gameplay will emerge in all their glory 😛

Or, as also suggested by @LightFoot, you can plug the PS5 into an HDMI In on the soundbar, still with the soundbar plugged into HDMI 2 eARC on the TV. With this arrangement, the audio from the PS5 will be played directly by the soundbar, while the video is sent up the cable into HDMI 2 on the TV, and displayed there.

The eARC does not come into play for the PS5 with this arrangement, but it does come into play for everything else you do on the TV, whether this is watching terrestrial TV, or using apps on the TV, or using any device that is plugged into an HDMI port on the TV.

There’s no right or wrong in whether you have the PS5 plugged into the TV, or into the soundbar; it’s a case of whichever way you find more convenient, or sounds better to you.

Btw afaik ps5 is not playing Dolby vision in any case so this feature should not bother you even if the soundbar and TV are fully supporting it

Yea I'd really follow the advise by the 2 amazing fellas up there, nothing more to add, so you can get it by don't use the ARC/eARC for the PS anyway, cheers.
