As said you can Force Stop but this isn’t at all ideal when viewing lots of random content and building up a lot of cache.

BUT

There is a very easy solution.

Once a week.

PRESS HOME

GO TO SETTINGS

GO TO ABOUT

PRESS RESTART

THEN RESTART

This will reboot the TV to fresh and you will not lose any settings in fact it’s easier than closing the apps individually.

Scroll to the app you want to close and keep the central button on the remote control pressed

That does not work on Android TV with Oreo update as previously stated.

Hi @PixarAnimated   Alternatively, hold down the Remote power button until it Restarts.

I postponed the update until today... hate the home menu and there's no recent apps, plus I've read some users have ads on their home screen now.

Anyway, I'll install some third party launchers see how it goes. I've read you can downgrade back or at least stop the ads if you have the problem, search for xda forum on this subject.

Going back to the thread, if you go on the Apps tab - find the app you want  to close, keep the Ok button pressed then go to Info and Force Close

The task manager is still there post Oreo but is not mapped to the home button on Sony for some reason.

However, have found background apps can still be managed easily if using an external BT keyboard.

Switching Apps...

Hold down ALT key and use TAB key to cycle between background apps, then release ALT key to switch to selected app.

Closing Apps...

Hold down ALT key and use TAB key to cycle between apps, then (still holding ALT) use DEL key to close the selected app. You can continue cycling / closing any or all apps while ALT key held down.

Still annoying that not available through factory remote though... Sony, please change this back in next update.

Marino, no  google havent removed it from oreo.  im running oreo on my nvidia shield's and the home button/ close tasks functionality still  works. I'm also running Oreo on my phoneand can close  tasks on that too  using the home button. the issue is with Sony's  build of oreo.

Argh ... finally got round to updating and the first thing my wife says is "where's the close menu gone that was on the Home button' ... very frustrating that Sony has taken this away...

@ Sony if you are reading this please put it back in ...

Google took it away... and Android TV is different than Android for mobile. The standard android mobile task manager btw is still present (there is a complex workaround via button mapper app to run it) but it is really of no use
