Info banner keeps popping

Hi,

I have just bought a new sony tv 49XE9005. I have connected apple tv 4 using a hdmi cable.

I am playing a movie on apple tv using an app called "infuse player". Each time I start or stop a movie or rewind/forward, i see an info banner popping up on the top of the screen showing hdmi 2.

I understand that this banner shows each time you change a source but how come it is showing every single time I play a movie or stop or rewind or forward? Is there no way disable this?

I have checked the software version; it says up to date. I have also checked that the tv is not in retail mode. I have also reset the tv but still this banner keeps popping up.

Any help please?

@jamesfrew

Unfortunately, this is the downside of that workaround.

Hey, the fix includes turning off the info banner ( Home->settings->channel settings->infobar->off  ) and doing a soft reset by pressing the power button on the remote for 5 secs.

I own the Sony KD 49 XG9005. Since I made the update to the latest version, the info display comes. I don't have the menu to deactivate the information display.

Hi @EUSupport_EN , yes, unfortunately! I can't really operate the TV at the moment. I can completely forget the home theater system I operate, whether the Bluray player or another playback device. The info display comes every time. That's how no fealing comes.

I have a KD-55-A8G Android smart TV  - too smart for me 🙂 - and I could not find out how to disable the Info banner which displayed at power on and did not disappear after a preset time. It had to be manually turned off with the remote each time I switched on  (darned annoying). I searched the web unsuccessfully for a solution until I came across this page. Now who would imagine that the Info banner setting would be included under Channel setup? Highly illogical place for it to be - it should be under Display settings.

Anyway, this solution fixed the problem for me  so thanks for posting.

I have a 55XF9005 TV, which is connected to a STR-DN1080 Receiver via the ARC HDMI, everything else (Sky Q box, Sony 4k DVD player and an X-BOX 360) are connected via separate HDMI's direct into the receiver (awesome visual and sound experience I must add) However I have always had the problem of the Banner popping up occasionally, for no apparent reason, although it was not really that often to spoil the experience, until recently! I had very recently upgraded my WiFi from a pathetic 1mbps to the latest Superfast FTTP with 100mbps. for some time prior to this I had a new version of software prompt showing up on my TV each time I switched on, but delayed the upgrade until the new Broadband was available or it would have taken a week to do! Now I am not saying that the software update was the cause, but around the same time the Info banner problem became unbearable at times flashing up sometimes 3 or 4 times in a couple of minutes for as long as 10-15 seconds at a time, then nothing for a while until it started again! after a week or so in desperation I looked on here and found what appears to be the solution! The answer which appears to have worked for me was to switch off the infobar as suggested, although the suggested route of Home->Settings->Channel Settings->Infobar->OFF was not the option on my particular TV, so with a little perseverance I eventually found the Infobar ON/OFF switch using Home->Settings->Watching TV->Info banner, where I turned it OFF! Amazing it appears to have worked, had my first ever night of viewing without it appearing once, so for those who say they do not have that option, it may be worth hunting around the settings menu, as it may be there under a different option!

ps Thanks for the tip pukman New you have saved me putting my foot through what is a brilliant tele!

Glad you are sorted.

Sadly no such luck for me - been through every possible ‘Setting’ option to no avail.

Our TV viewing has been made impossible and I am not sure how much of a priority Sony see this as.

As you say I too would have put my foot through the set but it us under warranty and I now consider faulty so in the absence of a resolution I am left with no option other than to demand a refund and consider what model to get as a replacement - this is (was) our first Sony TV and sadly almost certainly the last which is a shame since before this firmware update it was great.
