[Master Thread] - 4K / 2160p Juddering Issues - Sky/BT

Hi all - thanks for all the informative information I have found on this community site.

I have recently purchased the above tv and I am using it with a (UK) BT Ultra HD package. The output of the box is 2160p50 and I have set it to 10 bit colour.

Generally speaking I am very happy with the telly but I am experiencing a bug which sounds similar to the "Screen Format: Full" issue reported on another thread.

After a period of watching TV (normally longer extended periods of say 2 hours), the picture starts to judder and the "Screen Format: Full" message flicks on and off. The only way to recover this is to switch the telly off and on again which seems to allow the telly to "resync". This problem happens *every* day when watching TV at least once.

It is not a problem with the BT box as when I switch that on and off the picture problem does not clear.

I have tried different 4K related settings on the telly / BT box but the problem still occurs. Has anyone else noticed this with the TV ?

Thanks,

Ian

Seems to be an ongoing non solved issue, possibly related to defective receivers for many people. My suspicion is a bad soldered HDMI jack, on their circuit boards.

Also some people solved with HDMI splitter removal or adding.

I think that our Sonys do not support splitters.....

I too use the BT UHD box with the 43X8309C and am getting occasional 4K breakup, or tearing as I choose to describe it. My solution which seems to work is to switch to another HDMI input, say a DVD/BR player, AppleTV or a NOWtV device then switch back using the input selector on the receiver. The issue is afaics wholly related to the Sony Receiver and not the BT Setup.

I was led to believe that Sony were working with BT to resolve in a future release. Can someone ask the powers that be if that is the case?

Thanks.

Hi all

In regards to the image stutter on from the BT Ultra HD box, Sony is investigating this issue.  Ive also added it to the list of issues and bugs:

Experiencing exactly the same problem with a Sky Q box set to 2180P 10-bit output.  Discussed extensively at http://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Sky-Q/Juddering-in-2160p-mode/m-p/2499230#M38827

This would suggest a problem with the TV itself, since both the BT and Sky Q boxes as sources exhibit the same problem.  And other Sky Q users with different make TVs aren't seeing this problem.

In fact, switching the TV's input to a different HDMI input, and then switching back to the Sky Q HDMI input clears the problem.

This obviously needs an urgent fix in time for the launch of UHD content on Sky Q 13th August, as it makes UHD unwatchable after a couple of hours.

@Anonymous, can you ask Sony to talk to Sky as well as BT in getting this resolved.

My TV is a KD-65X8509C.

Sky have today released this statement:

And Sony have released this statement:

Lets hope they can get this fixed before 13th August for the big UHD launch.

@chrgray - Does tarbat mean anything to you?

@Anonymous, yes I am tarbat.

And a bit of info. for the Sony engineers.  I find that I can reliably trigger the problem by:

  1. View Sky Q in 2160p mode
  2. On the TV, Discover - Album
  3. View photos of differing resolutions
  4. Return to HDMI, and the Sky Q image is juddering.

I sincerely hope that the Sony engineers take a two pronged attack on this fixing the receivers to work both with BT YouView UHD AND Sony Q. It would be galling for those of us who've reported this issue with the YouView product for several months to be neglected in an attempt to placate Sky customers who've only recently been affected.

@chrisbrowe Hopefully the inclusion of Sky alongside BT will put sufficient pressure on Sony to get this fixed quickly. It's very disappointing if Sony have known about this problem for months and done nothing to fix the fault.  After all, they've just issued a new firmware that doesn't even attempt to fix this fault 😞

I can't see how retailers can honestly continue to sell the 2016 models, which apparently have the same fault, when Sony know that their range of 2015 & 2016 TVs can't be used with two of the main UK providers of UHD services - BT & Sky.

For my part, I've given them until 13th August, when Sky launch their UHD service, to fix this fault, and am already pursuing this with my retailer (John Lewis).  The latest today from Sony Customer Services is that they don't know when this wil be fixed, not even an estimated date 😞

I bought this Sony TV for it's UHD capabilities, and if that doesn't work with UK UHD service providers, then it's not fit for purpose.
