No more 5.1 Audio in Netflix after Marshmallow update

Hi there!

My TV is KDL-55W800C, optical connection to my home theater.

Netflix does not show anymore English 5.1 in its audio setting after the update.

Movie titles should show <title> HD 5.1 but not showing anymore so audio output to my home theater is stereo. There is no issue if I watch cable TV, audio output is 5.1.

Netflix was working fine before the update, showing English 5.1 in audio setting and 5.1 in the movie title and audio output is 5.1. These disappeared after the update, it's like being installed in a phone or tablet.

I tried the following with no success

1. uninstalled Netflix updates

2. clear data and cache of Netflix

3. set speaker back to tv speaker then back to system.

4. contacted sony support and they remotely checked my TV

If I can rollback the update to Marshmallow, I'll do it.

Any idea how to resolve this?

Thanks

I found the solution:

remove any cable connected to Audio Out/ HP Jack even if just extension cable

Check out Settings > Sound > Digital audio out. Marshmallow update reverted this to PCM for me. Set it to Auto 1.

It is set to Auto 1.

Not sure if the TV setting since if cable tv, 5.1 audio is working fine. It does not work only in Netflix

Just got Netflix and no 5.1 output only stereo, contacted support Netflix and no help but says my set is not 5.1 compatible what a joke!! Plex is perfect 5.1, tried above fix with no effect using ARC to amp which works with most receivers through hdmi.

Strange thing is on a fire stick shows 5.1 in film titles with Netflix app.

A bit weird but then Sony do not seem to talk to Netflix etc when designing these TVs.
