No sound from TV to AV on Bravia xr55a80ju

Hi I have my Sony Bravia xr55a80ju linked up to a pioneer vsx-527 using hdmi Earc ports on both devices. I get sound from my Tv box and Xbox which firstly go into the av receiver then Tv, but no sound from the av receiver when trying to use for example a built in app like Netflix on the tv. I’ve tried all the troubleshooting guides by disconnecting everything etc. The TV seems to recognise the av receiver but when setting this up with the Tv  I was not getting any sound either, when the tv said it was playing a sound. Have tried everything. Exact same set up on previous TV (Panasonic viera) with no issues

If I am looking at the correct AV pioneer vsx-527 it is about 10 years old? Your TV is capable of outputting audio formats that nobody had even thought about in 2012.

My guess is you have eARC switched on so the TV is trying to output Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos and Dolby Digital Plus which your old AV cannot decode, hence no sound.

First try switching off eARC first and keep reducing the audio until you find the maximum your AV can handle.

Settings -> Display & Sound -> Audio output -> eARC mode -> Off.
