Hello, I brought a KD55AF8 tv, it has what looks like screen burn. Contacted Sony as I had a 5 year Guarantee, after keeping me waiting 5 weeks they tell me there’s nothing they can do! I spent over £2400 on this tv and ,done nothing but watch TV on it and it’s ruined. Can anybody help me with any advice please? I certainly would never buy Sony again the after sale service is disgusting!
Unfortunately I have the same problem on my LG oled it lasted about 18 months before it had screen burn in very similar to yours, Good morning Britain logo? You can see the same issues here unfortunately it’s just an oled issue that we have to live with if you want an oled. Totally disgusting really for what you pay for them.

I had the same problem with a KD65A1 tv about the same age as yours and my story is on here somewhere. When the problem first appeared I tried Sony as I too had a 5 year guarantee but apart from walking me through panel refresh etc they were useless. Told me if was self inflicted.
Went back to Curry’s / PC World who collected the tv and after about a week aid it was irreparable so delivered a new model all without quibble.
As others have said your contract is with the retailer not the manufacturer so take it up with them and don’t be fobbed off.
if you get nowhere sign up to Which ? Legal and they will take up your case and write a letter for you to send setting out your rights. Don’t know the cost now but when I used them on another issue over 25 years ago it was about £100.
Good luck. Don’t let the thieving b******s get away with it !!!!
Hi, sorry for your problem. I work for a major retailer in TV’s and we have always been told by various reps of the tv companies their warranty will not cover you for screen burn.
If you go to a repair shop and can get them to prove it is not down to misuse then Sony will fix this for you. If it is because you have had the same channel on for too long then they would see this as user error and therefore would be up to you to repair.
That’s the issue though, define “misuse”
Is watching a TV channel with a static banner or logo for two hours a day classified as misuse?
If that’s the case then it could be argued that the product is not fit for purpose.
I can’t speak for anyone else but I know when I purchased my TV at no point did the the sales people inform me that watching terrestrial TV for a reasonable amount of time would be an issue or be classified as me misusing the product, if they had then I would not have purchased it, I would have went for a Samsung QLED or similar.
The product is sold primarily for watching terrestrial TV so if screen burn is such an issue it should be highlighted as such at the time of purchase.
When I inquired about screen burn at the time all I got was a load of blurb about that being an issue with the older generation of OLEDS, the new ones have screen monitoring technology, blah, blah, blah.
I assume that’s still the sales pitch.
Unfortunately the misuse excuse is a cop out, also what criteria does a repair shop or retailer use to determine “misuse”
Screen burn is an inherent side effect of OLED tech in general, TVs, Phones, even picture displays (what a waste that would be), so there's no reason to highlight it more than the fact that it still exists as a side effect.
And while it IS true that the newer generation OLEDs have better preventive measures, it's still largely an inherent issue of the tech.
As for proving that it's not down to misuse, you'll either need to send pictures directly to the Sony support reps or have it inspected by a Sony-authorized engineer just like Danny mentioned.
Hope this helps!

I'm getting this now on my af8 55" old too
Sony basically fobbed me off as did richersounds as they said the screen isn't under the warranty even though it's still got 2 years left to run as it had a 6 yr warranty with it
I'll ring richersounds again on Monday and see what they say again
But I thought the TV screen should be Inc as I've had an lg screen replacement early this year which was my son's through richersounds too
Unbelievable when you think I paid 2k for it
Only really noticed it when the world cup started
Hi,
You could try the consumer rights section of the gov.uk website.
Maybe they would be best to advise.
Hopefully you will get a satisfactory outcome.
Judging by some of the replies on this thread it seems Sony have us over a barrel on this issue.
For example ambiguous replies prompting people to prove its not down to misuse seems like a complete cop-out to me.
As you probably know by now there is no recommendations/guidelines in the manual or otherwise from Sony regarding “Misuse”
As long as the TV is not left on the same static image for long periods of time then it could be argued that the product is not fit for its intended purpose.
Again consumer rights will be best placed to advice as both Sony and the various distributors don’t want to take responsibility.
Good Luck, hopefully you get a better response on Monday.

That is exact same problem I have just now and I don’t hold out much hope of getting anywhere in my kd65ag9. Waste of 3.5 grand
