Sony AF9 Youview MyTV error YVM503

Youview error code; YVM3503. Details of my Sony KD-55AF9. Firmware PKG6.5042. Youview version 2020-11-26-d18b31ab1e. Ok so have tried all the simpler soft reset of both tv and router, forced a stop of the youview app and cleared its cache and data from the app preferences then restarted youview (aka Live TV & Catch-up) all to no avail. Still no MyTV working. I have now resorted to going back to square one. Full factory reset. Configured the internet connection via Ethernet cable. Signed in to Google and accepted all loading agreements.
next step was to configure the TV source. I figured that as youview is streaming TV I could safely skip this section and move on to completion.
what I didn’t expect was that Youview couldn’t access the TV guide until the digital aerial had been configured. Therefore I configured the tuning reception of the digital aerial only. I ignored the Freesat configuration.
Then I went back into the Live TV & Catch-up to see what now worked. I was pleased to see that the full guide was functioning correctly and also surprisingly the MyTV button was also now working. So all good so far.
i have encountered two anomalies that have a direct impact on the built in you view. The first is that if you physically record a programme on a digital channel you can’t  access anything in the youview guide to watch immediately whilst a programme is being recorded. This is definitely annoying. I will leave the tuning of the satellite channels to a later date.

24 hours later and back to square one! The MyTV section has failed and gone back to the original unhelpful error message with code YVM3503.

There is clearly a bug in this application that has plagued the Youview integration on this particular model of TV from day one.

Is Sony going to fix this properly? It makes no sense that I can use the recording features to record Freesat and Freeview but Youview which could and should be the best option appears to be only partially completed software. This is a top of the range Tv yet one of its key features is full of bugs and incomplete. It’s very frustrating.

The below photos  show the youview app version, Youview’s MyTV bit working correctly then youview’s MyTV not working less than 24 hours later.

I guess we are trying to figure out, when you have been watching the YouView box on the TV and listening to the audio directly on the amp, and you switch to a source on the TV, whether the TV sends a CEC message to the amp to switch to ARC, but the amp ignores this, or whether the TV doesn’t send any such signal at all?

We know that ARC requires an initial CEC handshake, but working out whether the TV isn’t asking, or the amp isn’t replying, is tricky.

May I ask a few supplementary questions?

If the amp is in standby, and the YouView box is likewise in standby, and you switch the TV on, does that start up the amp, in ARC mode?

This might give us a clue to the handshaking.

On another tack, having the YouView box connected via the amp means you can’t use its UHD capabilities. But perhaps if you connect it to the TV, its audio capabilities can’t be used to the full back over ARC to the amp? Have you considered the pros and cons of hooking up the YouView box to the TV instead?

(I know this won’t solve the issue you describe, but it would at least avoid it).

When you say the problem doesn’t happen over the TV speakers, are you saying that with the YouView box playing through the amp, if you then switch to the TV speakers, this causes the amp to mute, or to turn off, or the YouView box to turn off, so you no longer hear the YouView box audio over the amp?

As I wouldn’t expect the YouView box audio to stop in this scenario.

Some answers here might help us narrow this down a bit.

Thanks for the help & suggestions @royabrown2

I've ended up plugging the BT 4K box into the TVs HDMI 2 port and now everything's working fine.

As you said, because my Sony AV receiver is only 1080p I wasn't getting the best out of the TV box so it's better plugged into the TV and now the sound is working fine.

Eventually I want a new HDMI 2.1 receiver with at least 4 inputs for 2 next gen consoles, EARC and the BT TV box.

Shame Sony don't currently offer such a thing at the moment eh?

A shame indeed.

I could point you to a nice Denon AVR-Xn700H, where x is 2, 3, 4 or 6 depending on the depth of your pocket, now their teething problems with HDMI 2.1 seem to have been surmounted; but the Sony STR-DN1080 is an extremely well-regarded amp, if a bit long in the tooth now.

And it doesn’t seem possible to me that Sony will get through 2021 without announcing a successor to it that will rival, and very possibly out-perform, the corresponding Xn700H.

Hi apuk2004,

Have you tried a different network connection such as a mobile hotspot then restart the TV? Also, have you made sure that all the apps are up to date using the Google Play store?
